PITTSBURGH —
The Hollywood Theater in Dormont is celebrating its 100th anniversary Saturday, Sept. 26, with a free community event and a ticketed 1920s-themed movie night.
“We knew this was coming, and we knew we wanted to be big about it. And so, we’re even closing on Potomac Avenue here to have circus performers outside. And it’s going to be a huge community event,” said Brian Mendelssohn, owner of Row House Cinemas.
The milestone celebration will recreate a night at the movies as it was in 1926, starting with a free community day from 5 to 6:30 p.m. outside Row House-Hollywood in Dormont. Guests can enjoy live entertainment and family-friendly activities during the event.
Later in the evening, the theater will host a ticketed “1920s Night at the Movies” celebration, featuring a collection of short films and newsreels from the 1920s. Tickets to the event cost $26.
Row House acquired the theater in 2023 and reopened it in November 2025. Mendelssohn said the anniversary felt like a great opportunity to reintroduce the theater to the community.
“It’s not just our heritage and our history, but they built these this way for a reason. And the reason is that it transforms you. So, it’s not just like you’re walking into a mall kind of feeling. You’re walking into a place of wonder and excitement,” Mendelssohn said.
