READING, Pa. – It’s been nearly four months since Central Berks Regional police officer Kristen Yeager died in the line of duty after her cruiser crashed in Earl Township.
Now, friends and loved ones are looking to remember the good times.
“She was very much a love hard, play hard kind of person, so instead of having everybody together as like a formal event, we wanted to do more of a casual, fun celebration for her,” says Taylor Spangler, the event organizer and a close friend of Kristen’s.
The event will be held October 4th from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Redner’s Event Center at FirstEnergy Stadium. It will include food, drinks, music, auctions, and a number of kids’ activities.
“If you knew Kristen, if Kristen touched you in any way, please come out and help celebrate her,” says Spangler.
Spangler says she and Kristen became friends partly because they were both women working in emergency services.
“I was one of Kristen’s dispatchers in 911 for many years when she was an officer throughout the county,” says Spangler. “Her and I bonded over both losing our parents. She lost her mom exactly a year before I lost my dad, so we kind of trauma bonded in that sense.”
She says Kristen’s untimely death was difficult for many people but no one more than her three children.
“They’re all small kids, so we want them to be taken care of for the rest of their life for the sacrifice that their mom made for them,” says Spangler.
