Thousands of runners crossed the finish line in downtown Pittsburgh for the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler and 10K Sunday morning. Dad and daughter duo Leah and Jim Hoffner ran the 10K for the first time. They were convinced by Leah’s sister that they could do it. Even so, they were a bit skeptical going into it.”This is our first race that we’ve ever done together,” Leah said. “So we do 5K, but this is going to challenge us,” Jim said. The Hoffners, as well as more than 5,500 participants, pushed through the pain and rain and crossed the finish line.”It’s a lot to see all these runners, 5,600 record-breaking numbers this year for this race, and taking to the streets of Pittsburgh for what has become this favorite fall race, get people out there moving, whether you are running, walking, whatever, you are moving today,” Ellen Rossi, the president of EQT Foundation, said. Frank Lara and Cleo Boyd took first in the 10 miler for men’s and women’s, respectively.Samuel Hobbeheydar and Allison Plassio got first in the men’s and women’s 10K.And while the competition made for some good fun, runners, like Anette Nance, were just out to move their bodies.”I have kids, and I want them to know that you have to live a healthy lifestyle. It’s not necessarily I’m trying to make a PR or beat my time, but I just want to keep moving because it is so important,” she said.
