CHESTER, Pa. — Milan Iloski scored three goals, his second hat trick this season, Indiana Vassilev added a goal and two assists, and the Philadelphia Union beat Orlando City 4-2 on Saturday night for their sixth consecutive win.
The Union (11-10-6 and 39 points in the MLS Eastern Conference) are unbeaten in 12 straight since their return from the World Cup break. Both the six wins in a row and the 12-match unbeaten streak are club records. Orlando City lost its second consecutive match after an unbeaten run of five games in a row.
Iloski became the third player in club history with multiple hat tricks in the same season, joining Julián Carranza and Dániel Gazdag (2022). He has 16 goals on the season.
Iloski converted from the penalty spot to open the scoring in the 11th minute. On the counter-attack, Iloski beat goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau one on one to make it 2-0 in the 19th and bent a rising shot from 25 yards out inside the left post and under the crossbar to give Philadelphia a 4-0 lead in the 51st.
Iván Angulo scored a goal for Orlando (10-13-4, 34 points) in the 78th minute and Martín Ojeda capped the scoring in the 90th with his team-leading 13th goal. Ojeda tied former Lion Facundo Torres for the club’s all-time scoring lead with his 47th goal across all competitions. Angulo has scored a goal in four consecutive games and has a career-high tying five goals this season.
Antoine Griezmann returned after a one-game absence because of injury for Orlando and was largely neutralized. Angulo scored when Griezmann slipped a free kick into his path. It was Griezmann’s 12th goal contribution in 11 games.
Philadelphia is 10-2-0 during its unbeaten streak. The Union created separation with Orlando City to solidify their hold on sixth place in the East. Philly is three points behind Chicago and four behind Charlotte, both of whom they play in October.
The Lions could have leaped over the Union and into sixth place with a victory. Instead, Orlando City is only one point ahead of three teams — Red Bull New York, New York City FC and FC Cincinnati.
Five Orlando City players were unavailable after departing for international duty earlier this week. Justin Ellis joined the U.S. men’s national team for his first senior call-up, while David Brekalo (Slovenia), Wilder Cartagena (Peru), Marco Pašalić (Croatia) and Tyrese Spicer (Trinidad & Tobago) also reported to their respective national teams during the FIFA international window.
Ellis scored in his U.S. debut, a 4-1 friendly victory over Peru at Inter.co Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
