Western PA: Cloudy and breezy with few light showers

The massive nor’easter pumps in clouds for all. The Laurels have the best shower chance.

Jill SzwedPITTSBURGH —

The massive nor’easter hugging the Mid-Atlantic coast will pump more clouds our way throughout the day. It will also turn breezy with gusts up to 30 mph. And, there is a limited shower chance late-day, especially for the ridges.

Cloudy but dry for the Steelers game

The weather will cooperate for tailgating. There will be more clouds and a stronger breeze as we head through the game with temperatures in the upper 60s. Any showers should hold off until the game ends. But if you are heading home east of the city, you may run into a few raindrops on your drive.

The nor’easter “tucks” in along the Jersey Shore today. The center of the storm is nearly 400 miles away from Pittsburgh, but it will still spin clouds and a little rain in our direction.

The outer bands of rain will reach the Laurel Highlands by mid- to late-afternoon. Some of the rain could dry up as it rolls down the ridges toward Pittsburgh. Any rainfall will be less than 0.1″ and ends tonight.

The low hovers over the coast on Monday. We will keep the clouds, but it will be harder for rain showers to make it this far west. Clouds will remain into Tuesday morning with clearing through the day. The speed of sunshine returning Tuesday will depend on how fast the system moves away. It will also be breezy through Tuesday with occasional gusts of 25 to 30 mph.

Temperatures will climb above normal to begin October. Highs could reach the upper 70s ahead of our next rain chance. A cold front could send showers as early as late Thursday. Rain showers look to last through the first weekend of the new month as the system stalls near us.
