Over a thousand people in the Lehigh Valley were without power Sunday afternoon, mostly due to issues caused by the impacts of a nor’easter making its way along the Mid-Atlantic coastline.
As of 3:30 Sunday, FirstEnergy, which owns Met-Ed, showed around 1,300 customers without power in Northampton County. Most of those were in Easton’s West Ward.
FirstEnergy’s website indicated that the outages were due to inclement weather, with restoration of electricity expected by 5 p.m. in the neighborhood surrounding Washington and Walnut streets. Between South Second and South Third streets, crews were expected to restore service by 5:30 p.m.
By around 5 p.m., just about 250 customers in Easton were still without power.
In Lehigh County, slightly under 300 customers did not have service early Sunday afternoon, according to PPL. Most were in the area of Hamilton Street, between South 13th and South 14th streets. The PPL outage map indicated that there were tree limbs on wires. Just after 5 p.m., only about 20 customers were still without power.
Some customers in western New Jersey were also in the dark. Jersey Central Power & Light’s outage map showed 580 customers impacted in Hunterdon County and more than 520 in Warren County around 5:20 p.m. Sunday.
