The Erie County upset tax sale of eligible properties takes place Monday at 9 a.m., but three Erie Independence House properties will no longer be included.
Erie News Now first reported that a consent motion to stay the sale was approved by Judge Jamie Mead.
The decision comes as welcome news for approximately 35 people with disabilities who live at Erie Independence House West 5th, EIH Bayview, and EIH McClelland Avenue.
The property’s owner has entered into a cooperation agreement with HANDS to assume management of the properties at the request of HUD, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
According to the motion, the parties will work together to address operational and financial challenges in an effort to place the three properties back on stable footing.
That includes resolving delinquent accounts and implementing operational plans to ensure adequate staffing and maintenance at the properties.
The agreement also calls for addressing unpaid real estate taxes and other financial obligations as part of the effort to stabilize the housing complexes and protect residents.
