Blank Street Coffee, the chain known for serving espresso and matcha-flavored drinks, opened a location on the northern edge of GW’s campus Saturday.
The new Blank Street location sits at 2200 Pennsylvania Ave. — where a sign has read the cafe was “coming soon” since December — near Washington Circle, becoming the company’s third active D.C. location and its first in Foggy Bottom. Blank Street opened its first location in Brooklyn, New York in August 2020 and has rapidly expanded to over 100 locations in the U.S. and the UK.
The Foggy Bottom location will be open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., according to the store’s website. Blank Street did not immediately return a request for comment on whether the new location would accept GW dining dollars.
In 2022, Blank Street said they planned to open 10 D.C. locations within a year, but those plans never materialized. Several of the D.C. locations the company opened have also closed, including one on 14th Street NW, which opened in early 2022 and closed in January 2025.
Blank Street offers matcha-flavored espressos, tea and coffee options with seasonal options like the “cinnamon bun” and the “harvest chai.” Since opening its first store, the company has expanded rapidly with venture capital backing, reaching a $500 million valuation last year.
