(WHTM) – A new poll of Pennsylvania’s race for governor shows incumbent Josh Shapiro (D) leading State Treasurer Stacy Garrity (R) by 20 points.
The New York Times/Philadelphia Inquirer/Siena Poll of registered voters in Pennsylvania shows Shapiro leading 58% to 38% with less than six weeks until Election Day.

An August poll conducted by the same organizations showed Shapiro leading 55% to 39%.
The latest poll also found that 33% of voters have not heard of Garrity, the state’s two-term Treasurer. Twenty-nine percent of voters said they have a very or somewhat favorable opinion of Garrity, and 27% had a somewhat or very unfavorable opinion.
Sixty-one percent of voters said they either strongly or somewhat approve of Shapiro’s job performance, while 33% either somewhat or strongly disapproved.
Voters’ top issue was the economy (32%), followed by inflation/cost of living (10%).
Ten percent of voters said candidate character/competence is most important to them, and six percent said data centers/A.I. is their top issue.
Where Do Voters Stand On Data Centers?
Sixty-four percent of voters oppose the construction of data centers to support artificial intelligence, and 59% said they support limits and regulations around data center construction.
Thirty-nine percent said they support a complete ban on data center development.

Fifty-seven percent said they believe Shapiro would “do a better job” dealing with data centers and A.I. companies, compared to 31% for Garrity. Both candidates have made data centers a top issue in the race and have accussed each other of flip-flopping on the topic.
Election Day is Nov. 3, 2026. Pennsylvania voters have until Oct. 19 to register to vote and Oct. 27 to request a mail-in or absentee ballot. Polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., barring a judicial order.
