The fourth grade students of the Wallenpaupack North Intermediate School will participate in a Veterans Day program Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Wallenpaupack Area High School gym. The students will sing patriotic songs, as well as songs of the five branches of the armed forces, and have created an art display that focuses on appreciation of local veterans. All students at WNIS are involved in a writing contest thanking our veterans, and the winners will read their writings during the program. Area veterans will also participate in the program, along with community officials and school administration. The principal speaker will be Marine Corps Sgt. David W. Spry Jr., who was deployed from January to June 2003 to Iraq in Operation Iraqi Freedom and deployed again from November 2003 to May 2004 to Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom. The program is free, and the community is invited. Fourth graders from WNIS preparing for the program are, first row, from left: Talia Ubel, Amelia Martin, Louisa Ivakhnenko and Olivia Voto.
