Philadelphia has opened a limited-time window for new police officer recruitment.
Prospective officers must be a U.S. citizen, be at least 20 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Non-Philadelphia candidates have 18 months from their hire date to establish residency in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) officials said.
According to Metro Philadelphia, the application requires completing an online form, a reading test, a comprehensive physical fitness test tailored by age and sex, a personal history questionnaire, a background check, a medical evaluation, a polygraph, and a psychological evaluation.
Those who advance will complete 38 weeks of training at the police academy.
Starting pay for recruits is just under $70,000 annually, with potential to reach approximately $104,000 after five years of service, according to PPD officials.
