READING, Pa. – With all precincts now reporting, longtime Democratic member of Reading City Council Donna Reed, who is also the governing body’s current president, will retain her seat after facing off against Republican challenger Evelyn Morrison.
Reed won her reelection bid handily against community activist Morrison, who was unopposed in the Republican primary.
Reed has been on council since 2002 and has served as president since 2023, when she was appointed following the sudden death of her friend and colleague, the late Jeff Waltman. She won the May 2025 Democratic Primary in a race that saw the two leading candidates separated by only a handful of votes.
Morrison, a Reading native and fixture at council meetings over the years, hoped to increase citizen participation in all aspects of local government had she won. She said her lifelong need to be involved in her community gave her the skills needed to serve at the head of council.
Reed led her opponent by several thousand votes.Â
