The Erie County Department of Health is expanding its overdose prevention efforts with the introduction of a new Community Health Kiosk aimed at providing residents with easy access to free health and safety supplies.
Funded through the Opioid Settlement Fund, the kiosk is designed to help reduce overdoses, limit the spread of disease, and remove barriers that may prevent individuals from seeking essential health resources.
The Community Health Kiosk will offer a variety of free supplies, including Narcan, first aid kits, hygiene kits, and other health-related products intended to improve community safety and well-being. Narcan, also known as naloxone, is a medication that can quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and has become a key tool in combating the opioid crisis.
In addition to providing supplies, the Erie County Department of Health will maintain a secure, publicly accessible needle disposal container at the site. The disposal unit will allow individuals to safely discard used needles, helping protect the public from accidental needle sticks while reducing the risk of disease transmission.
Health officials say the kiosk is part of a broader effort to improve access to critical services and support for residents while addressing the stigma often associated with seeking overdose prevention resources.
County leaders hope the initiative will serve as another step toward creating a healthier and safer Erie County by making lifesaving tools and basic health necessities readily available to those who need them most.
The grand opening for the new Community Health Kiosk will be held on October 1 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Erie County Department of Health located at 606 West 2nd Street.
