PENNSYLVANIA (WJAC) — Pennsylvania wildlife officials are warning residents about upcoming changes for visitors to state game lands as hunting season gets underway.

Beginning October 1st, all visitors to any state game lands will be required to wear fluorescent orange. Officials say that requirement will stay in place through January 31st.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission says game land users must wear a minimum of 250 square inches of fluorescent orange on their head, chest and back combined, or on their hat.

“There will hunters out in the woods with equipment, whether it be archery or firearms, and those can be deadly, so we want to make sure anybody else who’s out on the game lands is being safe as well and is wearing that orange so they can be seen,” says state game warden Justin Beltowski.

State officials add that anyone who uses state game lands and has a pet with them to make sure to put an orange vest, harness, leash or bandana on their animal as well.
