The City of Erie has secured more than $1.17 million in Local Share Account (LSA) funding to support key investments in public safety, infrastructure, and city services.
City officials gathered Thursday to announce the award, which totals $1,171,400 and will fund projects within the Erie Fire Department, Erie Police Department, and Department of Public Works. Mayor Daria Devlin was joined by State Senator Dan Laughlin, State Representatives Pat Harkins and Bob Merski, City Grants Director Dave Tamulonis, and department representatives to highlight the impact the funding will have across the city.
Mayor Devlin said the funding reflects a strong partnership between local and state leaders working to improve services for Erie residents.
“This is what it looks like when we work together for Erie and our community,” Devlin said. “This funding allows us to continue investing in the equipment and infrastructure that our residents rely on while staying focused on providing excellent city services.”
Under the funding package, the Erie Fire Department will receive $156,552 to replace roofs at the Engine 11 and Engine 13 fire stations. The Erie Police Department was awarded $267,740 to purchase four new community policing vehicles, while the Department of Public Works will receive $747,108 for a new milling machine used in street paving operations.
State Senator Dan Laughlin said the grants represent an important investment in the city and will provide valuable resources to support critical projects.
State Representative Pat Harkins added that maintaining strong city services requires proper resources and equipment, while Representative Bob Merski praised the collaborative effort that helped secure the funding.
According to city officials, the projects will strengthen public safety operations and improve Erie’s ability to maintain roads and infrastructure.
“These investments will make a real difference in the work our City teams do every day,” said Dave Tamulonis, Director of the City’s Department of Grants. “From ensuring our public safety teams are ready to serve our residents to giving Public Works the tools they need to maintain our streets, this funding is an investment in the people of Erie and the everyday services they rely on.”
The Local Share Account program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development through the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The program distributes funding generated through gaming revenues to support eligible community and economic development projects throughout Pennsylvania.
