• First Church of Christ, Scientist, Reading, is sponsoring a free talk, “Progress Is Inevitable: It Begins with Vision,” on Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 405 N. Park Road, Wyomissing. The speaker is Dave Hohle, a Christian Science practitioner and teacher.

• Swamp Lutheran Church, 275 Swamp Church Road, West Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, will be hosting its annual pets blessing service on Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. The special service is in honor of the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi in remembrance of his love for all creatures. Bring your leashed and well-behaved pets or photos for the blessing. It will be held under the carport, rain or shine.

• St. John’s Gernant’s Church (A Federated Congregation), 13 Gernant’s Church Road, Ontelaunee Township, will worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary, celebrating World Wide Communion. Shirley Breininger will perform a solo called “In You, We Are One.” Fellowship will follow the service in the Sunday school room.

• Huff’s Union Church, 540 Conrad Road, Hereford Township, will hold an oyster pie sale on Oct. 24. Deadline to order is Oct. 12. Cost is $9 per pie. Call the church office at 610-845-2626 to order. Pick up between 9 a.m. and noon in the chapel.
