WYOMISSING, Pa. — Happy Valley came to Wyomissing on Friday night as Penn State alumni and fans packed into MaGerk’s to watch the Nittany Lions take on Northwestern.

“We’re going to have a lot of tailgates coming up here,” said Brenna Lauer, secretary of the Berks County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association.

“So we’re kind of just having a watch party to see who’s coming out and hanging out with us,” she said.

The chapter is trying out the bar as its new gathering place. Organizers said about 50 people attended, with some reconnecting with old friends and others meeting fellow Penn Staters for the first time.

“I met all my friends at Penn State that I’m going to have forever,” Penn State alumna Amanda Alpuche said.

“So I just love that we’re here. We still get together. We still hold events. We try to bring the community in,” she added.

Organizers said the gatherings can build connections that continue long after the final whistle.
