PHILADELPHIA – Former Philadelphia Flyers captain Mel Bridgman has died at the age of 70.
Bridgman was the first– and only– player drafted first overall by the Flyers in 1975, leading them to the Stanley Cup final in his rookie season.
He served as Philly’s captain for two seasons in 1979 and 1981.
His cause of death is uncertain at this time.
The Flyers released a statement on social media, calling him “A prototypical power forward who exemplified Flyers style-hockey.”
