If you’ve lived in the same place for many years, sometimes it’s hard to purge accumulated items. An Erie-area woman can help.

She helps families consolidate and transition into their next housing chapter.

Family Nest is a franchise.

Carrie Forsythe is the local owner of Family Nest Erie.

Her daughter, son, and husband help make up the intimate staff.

They clean and go through homes that Carrie purchases or is called to when a client is in need.

She says, “We help them move to facilities, we help them purge everything in their home.”

Moving may not be easy.

So within Family Nest, there’s someone ready to listen.

And that’s where Amanda Goodnough comes in.

Goodnough says, “I’ll just be there and let them know that it is hard and I know it is hard for them to part with these items, and a lot of times, it does give them reassurance and makes them feel a little bit better.”

A social worker by trade, Amanda meets mostly with senior citizens and their families to provide emotional support, so that the intimate Family Nest team can take the lead on the physical work.

What’s more:

Estate sales is something that Family Nest Erie provides, where you can physically come to a home in both Erie and Crawford counties, but coming up soon, the business will actually start providing online estate sales.

That is so families can reach and make more on what they have acquired, while Carrie can save the integrity of homes.

She says, “We see how much damage is done to the house, if we can buy the house, the updates we would need to make and how we can turn the house and get it in a better situation so that it is sellable again and back on the tax rolls. That’s always our goal, is to keep the community up.”
