BATH, Pa. – Cancer touches so many lives, and having a little extra support can mean everything. That’s why one nonprofit in Northampton County is bringing people together to make a difference.

69 News Reporter Sydney Kay was in Bath with more on the group’s mission.

The Chemo Bag is holding a “Rock the Bag” fundraiser Saturday at Blue Ridge Winery in Saylorsburg from noon o 5 p.m. The organization is holding the event for a 10th year.

The organization says it provides Bag of Hope care bags filled with items to provide comfort to people going through chemotherapy treatments in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas.

Melissa Healy, president of The Chemo Bag, said the nonprofit organization, which was founded in 2013, delivers Bag of Hope bags and backpacks for children to more than 24 infusion centers in the area.

CHOP, Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital, and the Hershey Penn Foundation also receive the bags, she said.

Healy said the bags have care items that help cancer patients going through chemotherapy, to give them comfort through their journey.

The bags contain items like crayons and blankets.

She said the nonprofit delivers almost 300 bags a month.

Treasurer Amelia Chapman said she started as a volunteer in 2020. She said volunteering is huge for the organization.

You can volunteer as a driver, help out at drop off sites, or arrange collection drives.

Healy said corporate sponsors and the community lend support to the organization.
