New things are popping up at both of the Stegmaier mansions on South Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre.
The upscale restaurant that opened in June in the Mary Stegmaier mansion is scheduling special events, including a pop-up Halloween bar the next two Fridays and Saturdays. The large Victorian home is at 156 S. Franklin St.
At nearby 304 S. Franklin St., the Guesthouse at The Frederick Stegmaier Mansion will open in November.
There is still a beer brand that bears the name of the wealthy Stegmaier family. The building named for Mary was built in 1910. Frederick’s was built in 1870. They are in the River Street Historic District, situated among other distinguished buildings.

Brianna Zurla, the Stegmaier manager, said she wanted to give the staff time to get acclimated before holding special events and Sunday brunch. Brunch begins Nov. 2.
“Mischief Nights at the Mansion,” with an elegantly spooky setting in the ballroom, will be Friday and Saturday and Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, from 7 to 10 p.m. Reservations: thestegmaier.com.
A $20 cover charge does not include food or drinks, but will be waived for people who dine in the restaurant that evening. Tapas and drinks, including specialty cocktails and mocktails, will be sold.
There will be tarot readings on both Fridays and crystal ball scrying on both Saturdays, both at additional cost.
“We are going to have it completely decked out with some really fun decor, just have some spooky and vintage vibes,” said lead bartender Annie Llewellyn. Guests will be able to check out the rest of the building.
It was Llewellyn’s idea to start a series of pop-up bars for holidays. She’s considering one around Thanksgiving with cocktail-making lessons. Christmas and Valentine’s Day will follow.
“It’s the perfect place to do it,” Zurla said.
The Gatsby Mansion Gala is Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m. The main ballroom will be staged in the style of the Roaring ’20s. Three wines will be paired with accompanying small plates. Period dress is encouraged. Tickets are $72, including gratuity, sold online in advance.
A Harvest Tea is Sunday, Nov. 23, from noon to 3 p.m. The traditional three-tier tray presentation of savories, scones and fall desserts will be served with a variety of teas. Tickets are $72, including gratuity, sold online. Brunch will not be served the day of the tea.
A breakfast with Santa is in the works.
When the Guesthouse at the Frederick Stegmaier Mansion opens in November, room prices will begin at $325 a night, including breakfast.
