Go back to school at original one-room schoolhouse
Step back in time — 1893, to be exact — in the Lehigh Valley’s only original, intact one-room schoolhouse, the Claussville Schoolhouse in Lowhill Township.
Now owned by the Lehigh County Historical Society, the brick, one-room schoolhouse was built in the most up-to-date style for its time, replacing an old frame building that had served local children for over a generation. A huge blackboard made of local slate spanned the front wall, and desks made of wood and iron were anchored to the wooden floor.
If you go: Tours at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. 2917 Route 100, Lowhill Township. Free to historical society members and children under 3; $10, nonmembers; $3 children over 3. Registration required; call 610-435-1074.
