Train service between Philadelphia and New York City will be reduced for five weeks starting this weekend.
The service disruption will begin Saturday, Oct. 10, and last through Sunday, Nov. 15. According to Amtrak and NJ Transit officials, the temporary service reductions will allow crews to complete work associated with the Portal North Bridge Cutover.
In a news release, officials said trains will only be able to operate on a single track between Newark and Secaucus during the project, resulting in fewer weekday trains operating into New York Penn Station on the Northeast Corridor (NEC) and North Jersey Coast Line (NJCL).
“While we recognize the short-term inconvenience customers will experience is not insignificant, the successful completion of this work will deliver lasting benefits for decades to come,” officials said.
