Police shot and killed a man on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Friday.
Police said they received calls around 11 a.m. reporting a man with a gun on 21st Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway. When police responded to the scene, they spotted the man waving a revolver, according to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel.
Bethel said the officers tried to engage the man with a bullhorn but were unsuccessful.
The unidentified man then fired his gun, according to Bethel.
A SEPTA police officer and a Philadelphia police officer both fired once and the man was shot twice. The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 11:30 a.m.
Bethel said they are investigating if the incident was a suicide by cop.
