The Youth Peace & Justice Foundation has launched a crisis-response effort in the wake of the October 9 mass shooting in Erie that claimed the lives of nine people, including two children.

The national nonprofit organization, known for assisting families affected by tragedies and acts of violence, is offering support, emergency aid, and advocacy services to those impacted by the shooting. The foundation was established following the 2022 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and works to help grieving families navigate the challenges that follow devastating events.

Foundation President Daniel Chapin said the organization is prepared to listen to families, identify their most urgent needs, and connect them with available resources and assistance.

The response effort builds on the organization’s work in other communities affected by violence, including incidents in Michigan and Louisiana. Foundation leaders are also encouraging community members to respect the privacy of victims and their loved ones and to avoid sharing unverified information as the investigation continues.
