PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A Philadelphia police officer has died after a shooting early Saturday morning in West Philadelphia that left another officer injured.
Officer Shane Seiber, 40, a 10-year veteran of the force, died at the hospital after being shot three times.
Commissioner Kevin Bethel said Seiber’s wife and other family members were able to be by his side before he passed.
Seiber leaves behind a 7-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter, Bethel said.
“This will be a period of mourning for us, but we will stand tall as a department and get through this together,” Bethel said.

The other officer who was shot was wounded 12 times. That officer, a 33-year-old with five children, is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
“He’s not out of the woods yet, but he is stable,” Bethel said.
A suspect has been taken into custody and officials say charges are pending. The suspect’s name has not been released.
Chopper 6 was over the procession for an officer killed in a shooting early Saturday morning in West Philadelphia.
Police were dispatched to the 100 block of North 52nd Street shortly after 12:20 a.m. for a report of a man with a gun on a porch.
The officers arrived around 30 minutes later and were shot soon after stepping foot onto the porch.
Officials say the suspect took off down an alleyway and shot multiple times at other officers, who were not hit.

There was a search and a neighborhood lockdown as police searched for the gunman, who was eventually taken into custody after falling out of a tree.
Officers recovered two handguns and a shotgun. Bethel said one of those handguns belonged to an officer who had been shot.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Officer Seiber.
