Buying or selling a used car can come with a lot of stress, but a new business is hoping to change that.

Private Auto Market on 1607 State Street officially opened its doors today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating Erie’s first dedicated venue for peer-to-peer vehicle sales.

The business lets buyers and sellers meet in person, browse vehicles, negotiate deals and complete transactions in one place.

Owners say the goal is to provide an alternative to online marketplaces, where concerns about scams and unsafe meetups can happen.

“Partnering with these notary so they can wrap up the transactions on site. You don’t have to drive somewhere to get the deal done. No matter what you do, that’s gonna have to be a step in the process, so just having it all in one location where you can get that taken care of.” David Sanford, the co founder said.

Vehicles were for sale at the event, and on-site notary services were available as people got their first look at the new concept.

Business owners say the marketplace is designed to make private vehicle transactions more convenient, secure and streamlined for both buyers and sellers.
