Fifty years to the day after its release, Pittsburghers will be able to see “Star Wars: A New Hope” as it’s never been seen before.

On May 25, 2027, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will perform John Williams’ score alongside the classic blockbuster at PPG Paints Arena. The Academy Award-winning score will be performed in full by the world-class orchestra as the film plays on the arena’s giant screens.

In addition to the four screens, the concert will also use lighting and immersive special effects to make the concert a unique spectacle. The orchestra will be led by PSO associate conductor Jacob Joyce.

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has found great success in recent years with its UPMC Movies with the PSO series, selling out performances of scores including the “Harry Potter,” “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings” films and holiday classics such as “Love Actually” and “Home Alone.”

“There’s no score more iconic than Star Wars, and no better way to mark its 50th anniversary than hearing it performed live by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Bringing the orchestra to PPG Paints Arena lets us share this music with more fans than ever, in a production designed to be as epic as the film itself,” Melia Tourangeau, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, said in a release.

Tickets, beginning at $45, will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Thursday via Ticketmaster. This performance replaces a previously scheduled concert on the same date at Heinz Hall, and ticketholders for that performance will receive priority tickets for the PPG Paints Arena concert.
