(WJET/WFXP)– The City of Erie and Erie Water Works announced they’re making changes to how water, sewer and garbage bills are paid at the start of next year.
Starting January 1, 2027, the city said all three bills will be combined into a single utility bill for residents and businesses alike to simplify the process, adding that they’ll provide more updates on the process as the deadline approaches.

In addition to the billing change, the city also announced a one-time amnesty program for anyone behind on their garbage bill balances through the end of the year to get ahead of the change.
Until December 31, the city said customers can have penalties associated with an outstanding garbage balance waived when their remaining garbage balance is paid in full.
“This is all about making things a little easier for our residents and businesses,” said Mayor Daria S. Devlin. “Bringing these services together into one bill will make paying utility bills simpler and more convenient, and we’re very grateful to work alongside Erie Water Works to make this transition as seamless as possible for our city customers.”

“At Erie Water Works, we want to make sure our customers have the best experience, including making the billing process as simple and easy as possible,” said Craig Palmer, CEO of Erie Water Works. “With that, we also want to make sure customers with past-due garbage balances are able to get caught up through this limited time amnesty period. Our team is here to help customers understand their accounts, and we’re happy to work alongside the City of Erie to make this transition as smooth as possible.”
