A man was found in the water along the river wall near the Roberto Clemente Bridge early Monday. A bystander used a tree branch to help keep the man afloat until first responders arrived, police said.

Man faces kidnapping charges

A White Oak man is accused by police of kidnapping a woman on Sunday.

Marcus Render, 46, is being held at the Allegheny County Jail without bail on charges of kidnapping, terroristic threats and false imprisonment.

A criminal complaint indicated that after a woman got into Render’s Cadillac Escalade, he sped off and wouldn’t let her out, threatening to sexually assault her. The woman told police she was able to escape when Render stopped at a Dollar Tree in White Oak and went inside. White Oak police found her hiding outside the store.

Text messages from Render afterwards indicated he was joking during the incident, according to the complaint.

The pair knew each other from a previous date, authorities said. Render denied the kidnapping accusations. He was arraigned Monday. An Oct. 26 preliminary hearing is scheduled. He didn’t have an attorney listed in online court records.
