The record-breaking pumpkin comes in at over 3,100 pounds
PITTSBURGH —
Mark your calendars; This weekend will be your only chance to gaze upon the most gargantuan gourd ever grown.
The Pittsburgh Monster Pumpkins festival is back for the Halloween season at the 3 Crossing’s campus in the Strip District.
On the 17th and 18th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors will be able to take pictures with a record-breaking 3,156-pound pumpkin, grown by a Rhode Island farmer, according to the festival’s website.
Michael Dongilli, a producer of the festival, told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4, “This is going to be the only place that the public will be able to see this particular pumpkin. After it leaves the Pittsburgh Monster Pumpkin Festival this weekend. It does. It makes a studio appearance in New York, and then it gets carved.”
Events for all
The festival will host a variety of activities across both days of the festival.
On the morning of the 17th, the festival will host a 5k for all ages. Costumes are encouraged, and prizes will be given to the scariest, funniest, and most original costumes worn during the run.
Other activities include a pumpkin pull, a pumpkin pie eating contest, and craft and food vendors for visitors to explore.
The festival is free to attend.
