Police: Vandergrift man attacked gas station worker

Pittsburgh Police have charged a Vandergrift man for allegedly attacking a gas station employee with a baseball bat on Tuesday.

Police said David Rose, 41, got into an argument with an employee at the Cedar Avenue Sunoco station on the North Side shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday morning, after the employee asked him for a cigarette.

The employee told police he picked up a handful of rocks and threw them at Rose’s car when Rose refused to provide a cigarette, and that Rose then chased him through the parking lot with a baseball bat and struck him roughly 20 times.

The employee was taken to a local hospital, where police said he was treated for a fractured fibula bone in his right leg. A doctor told police the injury was consistent with being struck by a large blunt object. Police also viewed security-camera footage that does not show the attack, but does show Rose with a baseball bat, and the employee walking back to the gas station.

Rose was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and related charges. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
