John M. Kirkwood, the Sandra and Thomas Usher Chair in melanoma research at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Clinical and Translation Science Institute, served as the keynote speaker for the Thomas E. Richards Distinguished Lecture Series on Oct. 1.

Kirkwood, also co-director of the Melanoma Center at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, shared insights from his 30-year journey advancing melanoma research and transforming patient care.

The annual lecture series celebrates innovation, dedication and the pursuit of a future without cancer by bringing thought leaders to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center for meaningful discussions that honor the legacy of Thomas E. Richards (A&S ’76), former chairman of Pitt’s Board of Trustees.
