Family members say Metallica was ‘dominant, controlling’

According to the search warrant, Pocono Township police spoke with Charles Harrison’s mother and his sister, while notifying them of his death on Oct. 12.

The women told investigators that Metallica was “dominant” and “controlling” and had isolated Charles and the 3-year-old from Charles’ family during the last three years, according to the warrant.

The women also told investigators that Metallica appeared resentful toward her son and had said she never wanted to become pregnant, the documents stated.

The family members said that Metallica complained that their child took away one-on-one time between her and Charles, according to the warrant.

Police search family’s home

A search warrant was requested for the family’s home on Pratt Avenue in Towanda, according to police.

Pocono Township police said they contacted Towanda Borough police and asked them to check the property. Officers reported finding an electric utility shutoff notice posted on the front door, according to the warrant.

Police also contacted an employee of a local lawn-care company who asked if the residents were okay because he had not seen them in approximately a month, the documents stated.

The family had checked into Great Wolf Lodge on Sept. 21 and had been staying there for about three weeks before the deaths, according to police.

Knives, financial records and journals seized

Investigators seized 10 teal knives from the home, including two inside a knife block, according to an inventory filed with the search warrant.

Pocono Township police previously reported finding two teal-handled knives inside the Great Wolf Lodge room. Resort employees told investigators those knives were not the type maintained by Great Wolf Lodge.

Other property seized from the home included:

Teal scissorsNine sealed envelopes addressed to Metallica HarrisonFour sealed envelopes addressed to Charles HarrisonA white, green and pink journalA red journalA bookFinancial records and a financial notebookOther miscellaneous recordsA black HP laptop and chargerA Sentry 1100 safe A Penelec envelope

Authorities said records inside the Towanda home could uncover valuable evidence in the investigation.

“It is common for individuals in these scenarios to document their homicidal and suicidal ideation’s via hand writings or electronics prior to, during and after the act has taken place,” Pocono Township police said.

The documents do not disclose what was written in the journals or sealed envelopes or what information was stored on the laptop.

Great Wolf Lodge killings

Pocono Township police responded around 3:13 p.m. Oct. 12 after Harrison called 911 and said she needed “help dying,” according to the affidavit.

Officers found Metallica with injuries to her wrist and neck and discovered her husband and son dead on separate mattresses, police said. Investigators recovered two teal-handled knives, medication bottles and containers holding suspected blood.

During the 911 call and ambulance ride, Metallica made statements indicating her family was dead and expressing frustration that her apparent suicide attempt had failed, according to police.

Surveillance video showed no activity at the room’s door after Metallica and her husband returned from the resort’s arcade the night before the deaths, according to police.

Investigators obtained search warrants and collected DNA evidence. Pocono Township police described the deaths as an “isolated domestic tragedy” that posed no continuing threat to the public.
