Tony Guy and Chris Deluzio are facing each other this November
Democrat Rep. Chris Deluzio and Republican Beaver County Sheriff Tony Guy are addressing key issues as they campaign for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, with the election set for November.
Tony Guy
Sheriff Tony Guy, who sat down for an interview with Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 last week, shared his views on holding universities accountable for the return on investment of their degree programs.
“We make certain universities or certain degree programs ineligible for student loans. Young people aren’t making good decisions when they’re deciding on what degree they want to pursue. There’s no return on investment. And yet they get that degree. They come out of college. And attached to that degree is a loan for $60,000, $80,000, $100,000, $150,000. And we’re not serving them well in that, in that dynamic,” Guy said.
Guy also highlighted his priorities, including improving law enforcement training, increasing homeownership, and changing voter ID laws.
“You need to be able to prove before you cast a vote that you are who you claim to be,” Guy said.
Chris Deluzio
Rep. Chris Deluzio has been hosting a town hall tour this month, with a stop in Beaver Falls planned for this weekend. During a recent event in Carnegie, Deluzio discussed the rising cost of groceries, cuts to SNAP benefits, and the high price of health care.
“We pay more for healthcare than any industrialized country in the world, and we get worse outcomes for it,” Deluzio said.
Deluzio also addressed the ongoing war with Iran and its impact on fuel prices, expressing his desire to see costs decrease.
“We’ve seen the Iran War rage on that’s cost millions of dollars, cost American lives and if you’ve filled your gas tank, you know the prices have gone up a lot. It’s not just gas; it’s diesel, it’s the cost of fertilizer, it’s the cost of just about anything that’s moved on the roads,” Deluzio said.
