SINKING SPRING, Pa. – On Thursday morning, a dump truck driver jumped a curb, drove onto the lawn of a property, struck a pole, and then crashed into a section of a nearby home, said the Sinking Spring police chief.

69 News had the chance to speak with the property manager of the home that was crashed into.

“I wasn’t expecting this today,” said Debi Dawkins, property manager of the building.

Dawkins was shocked on Thursday to find a dump truck crashed into part of the building.

The home in the 200 block of Weidman Avenue in Sinking Spring serves adults with developmental disabilities, and fortunately, no one was hurt in the crash.

The building has been temporarily closed, and people who live there will need to relocate while repairs are made.

“The township came, and the township manager is closing it down for now until the renovations are done and completed,” Dawkins said.

According to Sinking Spring Police, the crash was reported around 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

Multiple first responders arrived on scene to check on the driver and make sure no one else was hurt. Crews also checked to make sure the crash had not affected gas or electric service in the area.

Police spoke with the driver to get a better understanding of what led to the crash.

“Evidently, the driver remembers going from Penn Avenue to Mull Avenue. After that, it may be a mechanical issue where he couldn’t control the truck. So that’s kind of what we got. The story we got,” said the police chief.

Although Dawkins and her team will have to relocate temporarily, she says she’s just grateful no one was hurt in the crash.
