A Philadelphia man already serving a 5 to 10 year sentence for numerous robberies in the city has been bound over for Delaware County Common Pleas Court in absentia on a similar Delaware County case.
Quincy Jones, 31, is charged with robbery, receiving stolen property, making terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment and firearms offenses for allegedly robbing a Subway sandwich shop on the 100 block of South 69th Street in Upper Darby on Oct. 1, 2025.
District Judge Elysia Mancini Duerr dismissed one count of aggravated assault following a preliminary hearing Wednesday. She noted Jones was supposed to have been transported from the state prison in Fayette, where he is serving his sentence in the Philadelphia cases, but refused to get on the transport.
Defense counsel Pat McCafferty said he had spoken to Jones’ girlfriend Wednesday, who reported she did not know why he was not on the transport. Duerr proceeded with the hearing.
Upper Darby Detective Joseph Cristello told Assistant District Attorney Rachael Cook that he recovered footage of the incident from the business, which was played in court for the judge but not viewable from the gallery.
Cristello said the video showed the defendant enter the store in what appeared to be a light-colored reflective hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, a cross-body bag and a black balaclava. He demands funds from the clerk at gunpoint, receives some amount of money and puts the gun into the cross-body bag before exiting the Subway.
Cristello indicated there was another robbery involving a suspect wearing the same clothing at another Delaware County business, but did not go into details about that case.
Duerr also heard from Philadelphia South Detective Andrew Gallagher, who said he investigated numerous commercial robberies in the area linked to Jones, including nine in Philadelphia and three in Delaware County.
Gallagher said Jones confessed that he had a friend drive him to Upper Darby and drop him off near the Subway.
He then waited for other customers to leave before entering the store and demanding money from a male employee, according to Gallagher. The employee allowed Jones to walk behind the counter and grab about $100, Gallagher said.
Gallagher said investigators served a search warrant at Jones’ home and recovered a black 9 mm handgun with a silver slide, as well as clothing that matched what the robber was wearing in videos from numerous robberies, including the one at the Subway.
Philadelphia court records show Jones pleaded guilty in February to seven robbery cases and was sentenced to concurrent terms of 5 to 10 years. He also has another pending robbery case before Delaware County District Judge Christopher R. Mattox.
McCafferty successfully argued there was no evidence of aggravated assault in the Subway case, which Cook agreed with, but was unable to make out the case that the gun in the video was not the same recovered from Jones’s home or that he was possibly carrying some other object, like a knife.
Duerr said it looked like a gun to her and held Jones on all other counts. He is scheduled for formal arraignment Nov. 18 at the County Courthouse in Media.
