ALLENTOWN, Pa. – This flu season is shaping up to be quite unusual, and doctors say getting a vaccine as soon as possible is the best defense.
Almost all cases are caused by the H1N1 virus, which caused a pandemic in 2009.
On Thursday, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office held its fourth annual flu clinic, which hoped to vaccinate about 150 residents.
“It’s really important that people are protected so that they don’t spread illness to other people, like my parents,” said Yvette Kuhns, who was receiving a flu shot.
“I’m a caregiver, so I was always trying not to spread any illness to them because they have low immunity,” Kuhns explained.
This year’s early data suggests that flu season is already underway sooner than in recent years. Nationally, flu activity is tracking approximately four weeks ahead of recent flu seasons.
