EMMAUS, Pa. – A building that was once home to a longstanding sports bar in Lehigh County may become home to new apartments.

The former location of Volpe’s Sports Bar in Emmaus is the subject of a zoning hearing board meeting to consider a change of use special exception. The owners of the property at 52-54 S. Fifth St. in the borough are proposing to convert the existing commercial building space into residential apartments, according to the meeting notice.

The home of a former longstanding spot for beers, burgers, sandwiches and sports viewing is ready for its next chapter in Lehigh County.

Volpe’s — a well-known spot for beers, burgers and sports viewing — operated in the 9,800-square-foot corner property for 18 years until it closed the Emmaus location last April.

According to Lehigh County property records, the three-story structure was built in 1904 and has 31 total rooms, 26 of which are bedrooms.

The building is in East Penn School District.

The Emmaus Zoning Hearing Board will meet Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. at borough hall, 28 S. Fourth St.
