Williamsport, Pa. — State Rep. Jamie Flick, R-Lycoming/Union, invites veterans and their families to a special breakfast to recognize and thank them for their service.

The free veterans breakfast will be held Friday, Nov. 13 from 8 to 10 a.m. at American Legion Post 1, 10 E. Third St., Williamsport.

“I am deeply grateful for the service and sacrifices of our veterans,” Flick said. “This breakfast is a small way to show my appreciation and to honor their dedication though a meal.”

Flick’s connection to veterans is personal — his grandfather was a casualty in World War I, his brother-in-law was killed while serving in Iraq, his father served in the Air Force after World War II, and two of his sons have served, with one currently stationed at Fort Stewart, Ga.

The featured guest speaker is SGM (Ret.) Kevin Bittenbender of the U.S. Army. Bittenbender retired from the Army after 34 years of service that included deployments to Afghanistan, where he was exposed to burn pits that led to the amputation of his left leg. Bittenbender is a Bronze Star and Legion of Merit recipient. He currently serves as the director of Military Affairs for the Pocono Raceway and has previously been a speaker at Flick’s Human Services Expo and Speaker Series.

“Kevin is tremendous example of the dedication and commitment our military members demonstrate throughout their service,” Flick said. “I look forward to welcoming him and our local veterans for a morning of fellowship as we recognize those who have given so much for our country.”

Veterans attending the breakfast will also receive informational handouts and resources available to them.
