Thirty years constitutes a generation and The Children’s School at Saint John’s in Bala Cynwyd is celebrating its continuing care of infants to Pre-K children since 1996.
As Director Sharon Walton enthuses, “On November 6, 1996, we opened our doors for the very first time.
“Thirty years later, we are so excited to celebrate this wonderful milestone with the families who make – and have made – our school such a special place.
“We’re going back to the simple fun of an old-fashioned birthday party — a time to come together, have some fun, and celebrate 30 years of children, families, friendships, and memories.”
When it comes to early childhood education and care-giving, there is no room for failure.

“He can’t wait to spend time with his teachers and classmates, always looking forward to the next activity, experience or adventure which they have planned for him!
“We have complete peace of mind knowing our child is in such a caring, fun and educational environment.”
These testimonials accentuate the love and joy, growth and development of the children under the direction of Margot Adams and Sharon Walton, Directors of The Children’s School now in its 30th year.
The Children’s School at Saint John’s was founded in November 1996 to provide developmentally appropriate programs in fostering the development of children ages three months through six years.
Enrollment has been open to the families of Saint Joseph’s University, The Church of Saint John’s Lower Merion, and the community-at-large.
The Saint John’s backstory, “St. John’s was founded during the Civil War on October 2, 1862, by seven men who saw the need for an Episcopal church.
“The first service was held on August 6, 1863, and the church was consecrated on October 20, 1863.
“From 1864 to 1871, the church expanded with a rectory, enlarged worship space, and a Sunday school building.
“Despite challenges in 1894, the church was revitalized and grew steadily under new leadership.
“In 1897, generous donations led to the construction of the current stone buildings.
“The new church was opened on August 6, 1901. Additional gifts in 1906 funded the Lady Chapel with its beautiful stained glass windows.
“St. John’s faced challenges in the 1950s but was revitalized by new leadership.
“The centenary in 1963 marked a time of renewed dedication and campus restoration. Today, St. John’s is a vibrant community, continuing its legacy of faith, hospitality, and service.”
