ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Lehigh Valley International Airport is getting a new five-level public parking garage by 2029.

On Tuesday, the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority Board of Governors unanimously approved the construction of the parking garage at an estimated cost of $55 million, according to an airport authority news release.

The parking garage is being built to accommodate a current demand for parking as a result of “record-breaking passenger traffic and more flight options” from LVIA, the news release said.

The new parking garage will add about 1,000 public parking spaces. There are currently about 1,700 public parking spaces.

The parking garage will be built within the short-term parking lot. A new elevated pedestrian walkway will also be built.

The walkway will provide a protected and direct connection from the parking garage to the ticket level of the Main Terminal, the news release said.

The parking garage will include Parksmart certification, which recognizes high-performing, sustainable garages. It will also include mobile parking tools, as well as wayfinding and passenger information.

“We recognize there will be some operational challenges during the construction of this necessary project,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, executive director of LNAA.

“The Airport remains committed to ensuring a convenient customer experience through increased complimentary shuttle bus service to our Overflow and Long-Term parking lots, and the temporary expansion of additional public parking areas,” he added.
