PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — As Halloween approaches, residents across Philadelphia are transforming their neighborhoods with elaborate decorations, from haunted displays and circus-themed scares to flying witches suspended above city sidewalks.

In West Philadelphia, Dyresha Harris created the West Philly Fright Registry to help residents and visitors find Halloween attractions throughout their neighborhood.

“We call it the one-stop shop for all things wicked and west,” Harris said.

The registry allows neighbors to add their homes and displays to an interactive map designed for Halloween enthusiasts of all ages.

“It allows local neighbors to put themselves on the map to let folks know families and Halloween revellers of all ages,” Harris said.

More than 100 locations have already been added to the registry. Participants can sign up through a Google form accessible by QR code before viewing the map.

“You can pick by location. All of the different icons will tell you if there’s candy, events,” Harris said.

Among the featured stops are homes decorated with eyeballs, rows of skeletons and creepy clowns. Harris said her own display is still a work in progress but is inspired by the horror story “It.”

“Timely and spooky with a circus theme, so if you are afraid of clowns, it might not be your stop,” Harris said.

In South Philadelphia, David Kroblen said he has been decorating his block for more than 20 years.

“It’s been years in the making. I’ve got a flying witch, I’ve got a bat skeleton,” Kroblen said.

His display includes spider webs, animatronics and a centerpiece that hangs above the sidewalk, roughly a story above the ground.

“I got 300-pound weight fishing line. I wrapped around the pole across the street to my window,” Kroblen said.

Residents stopped by to admire the decorations, and Kroblen said his Halloween display will soon give way to another seasonal tradition. After Halloween, the decorations come down, and he begins decorating for Christmas.

Meanwhile, organizers of the West Philly Fright Registry said residents have until Friday to sign up and be included on the map.
