Peters Township’s Lucas Shanafelt scores during the second quarter against Upper St. Clair on Sept. 26.
The Countdown to Cumberland Valley begins this weekend with the official start of the 2025 football playoffs.
The first round and the quarterfinals are the merge points in the state playoffs as many of the matchups are still considered district postseason matches.
So far, the teams making up the Trib HSSN Top 5 are shining bright with only two teams falling out into the abyss that is the end of the season.
Both were in Class 4A with Pope John Paul II losing in the District 1 playoffs and Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast losing in District 12.
The Bonner-Prendie Friars become the second 2024 state champion not to qualify for the 2025 PIAA postseason along with fellow Philadelphia Catholic League foe St. Joseph’s Prep in 6A.
For a second straight week, the top of each class remains unchanged with LaSalle College in 6A, Pine-Richland in 5A, Susquehanna Township in 4A, Northwestern Lehigh in 3A, Troy in 2A and Fort Cherry in A still at No. 1.
There will be changes forthcoming this week with three head-to-head showdowns between ranked teams.
In Class 6A, No. 4 Parkland battles No. 5 Easton for the District 11 crown. In 3A, another D-11 showdown for district gold takes place when top-ranked Northwestern Lehigh faces No. 3 Notre Dame-Green Pond. Finally, in Class 2A, the top two teams collide for the District 4 title when Troy visits Southern Columbia.
Here are the latest Trib HSSN rankings in each of the six classifications. Teams are listed with overall record, last week’s ranking and district.
