BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A former Bethlehem firefighter is being remembered for his service to both his community and his country.

The city’s fire department held its annual memorial service Wednesday at Memorial Fire Station on West Broad Street.

Special honors went to James Joseph Kniha, who died earlier this month at age 95. Kniha served in the US Army in Korea in the 1950s.

Later in life, he joined the Bethlehem Fire Department, where he served as a firefighter for 27 years before retiring in 1991.
