PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A mother and her 12-year-old son were taken to the hospital early Thursday morning after a fire in Philadelphia’s Nicetown section.
Fire crews were called out to West Erie Avenue, by Sydenham, around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Firefighters were met with flames coming from the second floor and people hanging from windows.
Officials say the 12-year-old boy had already jumped from the second floor and was suffering from airway burns, smoke inhalation, and injuries sustained from the fall.
His mother was being treated for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters put up ladders and helped get residents out, ultimately rescuing six people.
The fire was placed under control in around 15 minutes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
