Erie News Now isn’t the only place that works with Second Harvest Food Bank to help the community. There are many other partners that step up year round. After being a staple in the Erie community, the Second Harvest Food Bank has formed relationships with other partners.
Greg Hall, the CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank said, “To really see the community coming together for a common cause, saying we want to help our neighbors, seeing those people volunteer their time, make donations, get involved is one of my favorite things to be able to do in this role as part of this organization.
For decades, Erie Insurance has helped the food bank both by giving monetary donations and by donating the time of their employees.
Jenny Geertson, the Director of Community Outreach of Erie Insurance explained, “We have a long standing relationship with Second Harvest Food Bank. We have been volunteering and contributing corporate dollars for over twenty years. It’s an organization that our employees have really wrapped around and we are excited to support it every year.”
The volunteering opportunities is something that sticks with Erie Insurance employees.
“We get a ton of positive feedback from our employees, it’s something they really love to do. It’s a great team building activity for them and they come back with lots of great stories and they share lots of great feedback and it’s great to build enthusiasm through the company”, said Geertson.
Erie Insurance employees like to take things a step further when donating items.
Danielle Jell, a Senior Community Outreach Specialist with Erie Insurance explained, “It’s exciting to see all the initiatives that all the other departments do.There’s a bean battle this year, a peanut butter and jelly drive, so it’s really great to just have our employees come up with their own ideas and give back in their own way.
