UPPER NAZARETH TWP., Pa. – The awards are piling up for Bethlehem Police Lieutenant Michael DiLuzio.
Back in May, he was named BPD’s Police Supervisor of the Year. On Wednesday, he received the 2025 Nathan Ogden Award, presented during the Northampton County Chiefs of Police Association meeting at the 911 center in Upper Nazareth Township.
The Ogden award takes its name from Northampton County Deputy Sheriff Nathan Ogden, who was killed in the line of duty on January 20, 1771. Ogden is believed to be the first law enforcement official killed in the line of duty in the United States.
It’s been given for the past 23 years to a Northampton County law enforcement officer who goes above and beyond the call of duty.
“While a single heroic act may be worthy of recognition, special consideration is given to nominees who have demonstrated consistent professionalism, integrity and dedication throughout their careers,” said Thomas Barndt, President of the Northampton County Chiefs of Police Association and Chief of the Lower Saucon Police Department, in his introductory remarks.
DiLuzio fits into the category of having a sustained record of excellence, said Bethlehem Police Deputy Chief Scott Meixell. DiLuzio previously was named Detective of the Year in 2019, and has racked up nearly two dozen commendation letters for bravery and merit during a career that began in 2006.

In addition, Meixell said, DiLuzio has pursued a number of difficult cases, including cases that involve the exploitation of children. “(DiLuzio’s) work in these cases has directly safeguarded the most vulnerable children and brought justice against those who harm them,” Meixell said.
DiLuzio accepted the award in front of a room packed with many of his colleagues from the Bethlehem police force. “I owe my success to the people that I work with,” he said. “I work with some really talented officers, detectives, sergeants, lieutenants and our administrative staff who have nurtured me throughout my career, and I’m really glad I got to work with these people throughout my time here.”
DiLuzio said he plans to retire next year. His future plans are to be determined.
