This weekend is shaping up to be a great one, full of family-friendly activities for every age and interest in Pittsburgh. There are several plays, including a sensory-friendly performance, which are a great way to fill cold, dreary months in this city. Friday, Nov. 14: Duo’s Treehouse with La Escuelita Arcoiris, 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. 

With two sessions every Friday, Duo’s Treehouse is the perfect way to experience bilingual play (English and Spanish) and make new friends. This class is for caregivers and children under the age of 5. This free class at The Kingsley Center features two sessions each week, with pre-registration required.

Friday, Nov. 14: County Services Resource Fair at CLP Downtown, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Join the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD), Allegheny County Department of Human Services (ACDHS) and other community providers for free information from local organizations at the Carnegie Library’s Downtown location. Participating organizations may include ACHD Overdose Prevention, ACHD Housing Program, DHS Drug & Alcohol, JADE Wellness, Three Rivers Youth, Positive Pathways, AHN Perinatal HOPE Program, Central Outreach Wellness Center, Allies for Health + Wellbeing, Onala Recovery Center, UPMC Internal Medicine Program, The Open Door, Pinnacle Treatment and Power. Friday, Nov. 14: The Terminal Tree Lighting in the Strip District, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. 

Join your fellow Yinzers in the Strip to turn the lights on the Terminal Christmas Tree and celebrate with a special Holiday Market featuring local vendors alongside Terminal retailers. Enjoy music from DJ Breis Gordan, buy some great food, and shop for the holidays. The Terminal’s tree gets lit up at 5:45 p.m. Find more details here.

Friday, Nov. 14-Sun, Nov. 16: “Mr. Edgar A. Poe Presents: Tales of Mystery, Horror & Imagination” 

The world premiere of Prime Stage Theatre’s “Mr. Edgar A. Poe Presents” continues with four more shows this weekend at New Hazlett Theater on the Northside. Written by Pittsburgh sci-fi/horror fiction writer Lawrence C. Connolly, the show captures Poe in his prime performing a selection of favorite tales before a spellbound live audience. Shows this weekend include a sensory-inclusive performance Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with “pay what you can” ticket prices. Good for bigger kids and grownups. Get tickets and details here.

Saturday, Nov. 15: I Made It! Holiday Market, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 15: Reading Ready Pittsburgh’s Celebration of Families, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Come to B is for Books on Saturday, November 15, for Reading Ready Pittsburgh’s free Celebration of Families event. We want to honor and celebrate your family, no matter how it looks or how it’s made up! Saturday, Nov. 15: Storytime with PARR at the Penn Hills Library, 10:30 a.m. 

Join educator Gail Brown from Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) for a storytime that uses books and songs to introduce the idea of personal space and boundaries in an age-appropriate manner. This event is free and is designed for children ages birth to 5 years old and their caregivers. Find more info here.

Saturday, Nov. 15: Jingle Bell Jukebox, the Musical – Sensory-Friendly Musical Performance, 11 a.m. 

This sensory-friendly musical performance at South Park Theatre is for families and kids of all ages. This is performed by kids, and the show will run about 75 minutes with an intermission. Tickets are $6 for kids, $10 for adults. South Park Theatre is partnering with Just About Pediatrics to accommodate sensory needs. This performance will offer more reduced lighting effects, sound effects, digital program access, and provide sensory-friendly tools for guests to use during the show. Purchase tickets here.

Saturday, Nov. 15: Opening of “Little Women” at City Theatre

This show, which will run through Dec. 7, will tell the classic tale by Louisa May Alcott. This show is best for teens. Tickets begin at $5 for some performances thanks to RAD Pass pricing. Find more info on specific performances and pricing here.

Saturday, Nov. 15-Sunday, Nov. 16: The Ultimate Brick Show at the Monroeville Convention Center

The Ultimate Brick Show is a brand new expo, coming for the first time to Pittsburgh. Their mission is to provide an engaging and educational experience that brings families and communities together. Experience build challenges, meet and build with LEGO Masters, interact with LEGO displays, learn something new at the workshops, create a work of art on the mosaic wall, test your speed at the LEGO pine car races, build your coolest creation in the DUPLO Play Zone, shop at unique LEGO vendors, and more. Sunday, Nov. 16: Playdate at the Library at CLP Allegheny, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Children learn and grow through family play, so this free event is perfect for kids ages 5 to tap into their natural curiosity. This event is a time for families to grow their community, enjoy toys, games, and supplies in the children’s space, and connect with Children’s Services staff. This event is at the Allegheny (North Side) location of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
