An Exeter Township resident was taken to Reading Hospital after suffering injuries in a house fire Wednesday night, officials said.

The man called 911 to report the fire about 8:15 p.m. in the 400 block of East Baumstown Road, said Matt Eshenaur, deputy chief of Exeter Township Fire Department.

Crews encountered fire on the front porch. The lone occupant of the home was outside.

Crews quickly put out the bulk of the flames before entering and finding additional fire on the first floor, Eshenaur said.

Meanwhile, firefighters administered first aid to the victim before transferring him to medics from an ambulance crew, he said. It wasn’t clear how he suffered the injuries.

Information on the victim’s medical condition wasn’t immediately available. Eshenaur said his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

In addition to fire damage, the house sustained smoke damage throughout, Eshenaur said. A damage estimate was unavailable.

The township fire marshal was investigating the cause.
